Mr. Scott Barker

Scott Barker is a Portfolio Manager responsible for the ongoing research and development of derivatives-based strategies as well as the day-to-day management and trading of such accounts. He also provides support for the firm's global asset allocation portfolios. Prior to joining the firm, Scott served as Research Analyst for Analysis Group, Inc., where he provided investment consulting services for institutional investors and plan sponsors. These services included conducting performance measurement, equity attribution, portfolio characteristic analysies, and asset allocation strategies. Scott also worked previously at XonTech, Inc. where he developed mathematical models for remote sensor systems and accompanying signal processing software.

Mr. Dana Hobson

Mr. Hobson is a Senior Vice President at Bailard, where his responsibilities include development and operation of equity long/short strategies and quantitative research. He is an expert on equity trading research and data and FIX-based trading, and has published papers in the Journal of Trading. Prior to joining Bailard in 2003, Mr. Hobson was a managing partner at Mulsanne Capital Management, a principal in global equity trading research at Barclays Global Investors, a quantitative analyst on the statistical arbitrage desk at UBS/O'Connor (formerly Warburg), and a financial analyst on the money-market trading desk in the corporate treasury of Bank of America. Previously, Mr. Hobson was involved with ballistic missile defense research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology/Lincoln Laboratory, and an instructor in applied mathematics at MIT. Mr. Hobson received his PhD in applied mathematics from the California Institute of Technology in 1990 and his BS in mathematics from Harvey Mudd College in 1985. He received his Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 2000.

Mr. Peter G. Sasaki

Mr. Sasaki is the owner of Logos Capital Management, LLC where he advises two global macro funds and a commodity arbitrage program. Mr. Sasaki is also a General Partner in PS-KA Partners, a European physical commodity trading and real estate investment concern and is a lecturer at Yale University. Prior to starting Logos in 2000, Mr. Sasaki was a market analyst and derivative trading specialist at Moore Capital Management, Inc. where he specialized in quantitative relative value trading techniques within a macro framework. Before joining Moore, Mr. Sasaki served as a Vice President at J.P. Morgan & Company where he managed proprietary portfolios invested in foreign exchange, fixed income, equities, and commodities. Mr. Sasaki holds an MBA in Finance from New York University and a BA in Philosophy from Pomona College.

Professor Ludwig B. Chincarini

Assistant Professor

Professor Chincarini specializes in portfolio management, quantitative equity management, and derivatives. His research interests include portfolio strategies, investment tax issues, and derivatives. He has taught courses entitled Investments, Global Financial Markets, Special Topics in Investments. Professor Chincarini is the author of the book Quantitative Equity Portfolio Management. He has over 10 years of experience in the financial industry. In 1999, he helped build FOLIOfn, an online investment firm specializing in personal accounts. In 2002, Ludwig joined Rydex Global Advisors, a mutual fund company, as Director of Research. At Rydex, he co-developed the new S&P 500 Equal-Weight Index. From 1995 to 1996, Ludwig was a Research Analyst for Schroders, an asset management company, where he developed models to help manage fixed income portfolios and determine asset allocation. From 1996 to 1999, he worked at the Bank for International Settlements (BIS). Professor Chincarini received his Ph.D. in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his A.B. from the University of California, Berkeley.

Mr. Paul S. Efron

Pomona College – Class of 1977

Mr. Efron is an advisory director of Goldman Sachs. He is co-chair of the Credit Capital Markets Committee and a member of the firmwide Capital Committee. Since joining the firm in 1984, he has had management responsibilities for a variety of groups including the Capital Markets Group, the New Products Group, and Leveraged Finance, and has spent seven years in London. He became a managing director in 1996 and a partner in 1998. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Efron was employed with First Boston for one year as an associate and with Morgan Guaranty Trust for three years as an assistant vice president. He is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of Pomona College. Mr. Efron earned an MBA from Wharton in 1980 and a BA from Pomona College in 1977. He lives with his wife, Susan, and their two children in Larchmont, New York.

Ms. Kristin A. Horne

Ms. Horne is a managing director in Morgan Stanley's Investment Banking Division. She works in the Financial Sponsors Group where her responsibilities include covering west coast private equity firms. Her responsibilities specifically include sourcing and financing new acquisitions as well as working with portfolio companies on equity and debt financings and mergers and acquisitions advice. After graduating from Pomona College with a double major in economics and math, Ms. Horne was a consultant at Booz Allen & Hamilton, where she focused on business strategy and operations. Ms. Horne received her MBA from Stanford's Graduate School of Business.

Mr. James A. Quella

Senior Managing Director and Senior Operating Partner
The Blackstone Group, New York City, NY

Mr. Quella is responsible for monitoring the strategy and operational performance of Blackstone portfolio companies and providing direct assistance in the oversight of large investments. He is also a member of the firm's Private Equity Investment Committee. Prior to joining Blackstone in 2004, Mr. Quella was a Managing Director and Senior Operating Partner with DLJ Merchant Banking Partners-CSFB Private Equity. Prior to that, Mr. Quella worked at Mercer Management Consulting and Strategic Planning Associates, its predecessor firm, where he served as a senior consultant to CEOs and senior management teams, and was Co-Vice Chairman with shared responsibility for overall management of the firm. Mr. Quella received a BA in International Studies from the University of Chicago/University of Wisconsin-Madison and an MBA with dean's honors from the University of Chicago. He is also the co-author of Profit Patterns: 30 Ways to Anticipate and Profit from the Strategic Forces Reshaping Your Business. Mr. Quella has been a member of various Private Equity company boards and currently serves as a director of Allied Waste, Celanese, Graham Packaging, Michaels Stores, Inc. and The Nielsen Group.

Janet Kiholm Smith is the Von Tobel Professor of Economics at Claremont McKenna College where she serves as Director of the Financial Economics Institute. She received a Ph.D. in economics from UCLA, and has been on the faculties of Arizona State University, University of Southern California, and Oberlin College. At CMC, she has served as Chair of the Department of Economics and also directs the Robert A. Day 4+1 BA/MBA Program. Current research interests are in the areas of industrial organization and new venture finance. She is coauthor of Entrepreneurial Finance (Wiley & Sons), 2nd ed, which is translated into Japanese and Chinese. Her publications have appeared in such journals as Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial & Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Legal Studies, Journal of Law, Economics & Organization, and Journal of Industrial Economics.

Mr. Harry T. McMahon

Mr. McMahon is a member of Merrill Lynch's Executive Client Coverage Group. He works in close partnership with Merrill Lynch's business heads to provide enhanced client coverage, while building business opportunities and providing client-oriented service. Mr. McMahon, who joined Merrill Lynch in 1983, has held senior positions in both Capital Markets and Investment Banking, including cohead of the Global Corporate Finance group from 1996 to 2003. His broad base of deal experience has included being the team leader on more than 300 projects involving either merger-and-acquisitions advisory work or corporate finance. From 1975 to 1983, Mr. McMahon worked for the Northern Trust Bank of Chicago in international cash management, commercial lending and corporate finance. He received an MBA with a concentration in finance from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business, and a bachelor's degree in economics from Claremont McKenna College. He is currently the Chairman of the Claremont McKenna College Board of Trustees.
